Community Fridge
The Brewster Ladies’ Library Community Refrigerator offers free, fresh produce, packaged food, and healthy prepared meals to all members of the community. Inspired by other similar initiatives like Provincetown’s Crop Swap and Eastham’s Community Refrigerator, our fridge operates on a simple principle: take what you need, share what you can. No questions asked.
The refrigerator is located on the main level of the Brewster Ladies’ Library and is accessible during regular library hours.
Donations of fully packaged, commercially produced foods or fresh, uncut produce (fruits and vegetables) that are completely intact, free from any abrasions or cut in a way that exposes the flesh under the skin are accepted. Any person, organization, or business wishing to make regular donations should contact the Library in advance to coordinate drop-off procedures.
Currently, the Family Table Collaborative donates fresh, prepared meals every Tuesday!
Little Free Pantry
The Brewster Ladies’ Library Little Free Pantry (BLL - LFP) is a community-based initiative designed to provide free, discreet access to nonperishable food, toiletries, and essential household items for anyone in need. Located in the library’s entryway, this small bookcase-style pantry encourages patrons to take what they need and leave what they can with no questions asked and no stigma.
Originally created as a response to the decrease and potential elimination of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, the Library seeks to help address growing food insecurity and/or temporary hardship within the Brewster community through this LFP. Additionally, the BLL - LFP hopes to extend the Library’s mission by fostering an environment of community support, fulfilling the Library’s role as a community hub with access to essential resources, and providing meaningful, stigma-free generosity during a time of uncertainty.
Donations of unexpired, nonperishable food items and unopened toiletries are welcomed.
