Brewster Ladies’ Library has two accessible entrances with nearby parking for people with disabilities. One accessible entrance is on the side of the building when you first pull into the library, before you go into our parking lot. You can then enter through the auditorium side door. The second accessible entrance is through our lower level, where patrons can then use the elevator to come up to the main floor of the library. To use this entrance, park near our flagpole courtyard.
The library offers a large print computer in our Reference Area. The computer has a large print keyboard, and fonts and icons are larger on the computer screen. Patrons with a visual impairment are also welcome to use our CCTV, which is also in the Reference Area. The CCTV magnifies printed text onto a screen and allows the user to make color contrast changes for easier reading.

The library can provide basic information about alternatives to books through Perkins Library, if reading large print or holding a book becomes difficult. Our library can advise you regarding eligibility, and assist with completing the application for free library services through Perkins. Perkins circulates more than half a million copies of accessible books, newspapers, and publications in braille, large print, and digital audio formats to thousands of registered patrons who have difficulty reading newspaper size text, holding a book, or turning pages. The main entrance of Brewster Ladies’ Library is off of the parking lot, with 8 initial steps up. At the landing, turn right and go another 6 steps up to the landing with the doors. The button to open the first set of double doors is to the left of the entrance. Once you’re inside the entryway, the button to open the 2nd set of double doors is to the right, beneath the bulletin board.
When you go through the 2nd set of double doors at the main entrance, the main desk is approximately 50 feet ahead. There are restrooms through another set of double doors to the left, just before you get to the main desk. If you go past the bathrooms and through yet another set of double doors, you have reached the auditorium, where most of our programs are held.
When exiting through the main doors, the button to open the first set of double doors is to the right near the teen room. The button for the 2nd set of double doors is also to the right, below the bulletin board.
We also have an accessible entrance that enters through the auditorium, before you go down into our parking lot. Before you reach the entrance, there are bricks around 2 benches. One is a circular bench around a tree, and one is a rectangular bench by a shrub. The button to open the side entrance is to the right of the door. Once you step into the entryway, turn left. There is a button to open the 2nd door to your left, near a metal post. In the auditorium we have artwork hanging that changes on a monthly basis. Follow the wall to your right for 25 feet to find the double doors that lead to the restrooms, and beyond that through another set of double doors is the circulation desk.
When exiting through the auditorium, the button to open the door is to the right. Once in the entryway, turn right and push the button to the left of the 2nd door.
You can also enter the library through the accessible entrance in the lower level. About 4 feet from the door, there is a wooden post to the right with a button to open the door. Once you enter the library on the lower level, you will find the elevator about 26 feet ahead on the left. The elevator can take you up to the Upper Level, where the main desk and auditorium are located, or down to the basement, where we hold seasonal book sales.
The lower level also has a meeting room and a conference room across from the elevators. If you go towards the wall 19 feet past the elevator, there are restrooms to your right.
When exiting from the lower level, there is a button to the right of the door beneath the window.
