Wireless Internet
Wireless Networking Information for Users
Getting Started
In order to access the wireless
network, you need to install and properly configure a wireless network interface
card on your portable laptop or computing device.
Once you have an installed
wireless network card, you will need to know the SSID (Service Set Identifier)
in order to associate with the wireless network here at the library.
Logging In
Users must authenticate before
they can connect to the wireless network. To initiate the authentication process, open your preferred Web browser (e.g.
Internet Explorer, Netscape) and an authentication page will appear.
Once you have an installed
wireless NIC, you will only need to know the SSID (Service Set Identifier), library,
in order to associate with the wireless network.
Guidelines
Wireless connectivity is generally sufficient for checking email or availing oneself of Internet resources, but bandwidth-intensive tasks, such as streaming media or large file downloads, are best suited to a wired connection.
