The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners voted to place the Brewster Ladies’ Library on a waitlist for a Provisional Construction Grant.
The Town of Brewster and the Library will be awarded $4,655,737.
Waitlisted libraries receive construction grants as the funding becomes available either through the existing bond bill or a future bond authorization. It may be 2020 before the award is given.
The Brewster Ladies’ Library Board, Staff and the Library Building Committee have designed a Library Building Program for the next 20 years.
The work started in 2013, when the Library Board formed a Feasibility Committee to study the interior design and operations of the library. Since then, there have been surveys and focus groups to obtain community feedback. Design funding grants were received from the State, the Town and the Eddy Foundation to hire a Project Manager and an Architect to take the program from ideas to schematics.
The Library Building Committee presented the preliminary design schematics to the Board of Selectmen on August 1, 2016. At the November 14, 2016 Town Meeting, permission to apply for a State Construction Grant in January 2017 was granted. Voters also approved the preliminary design schemes.
The grant was filed January 27, 2017 and the State approved the application on July 13, 2017.
