Jeanne Dubé
It is with sadness that we report that Jeanne passed
away early Sunday February 22, 2009. Our condolences to her husband, Paul,
and her extended family.
She will be greatly missed.
Jeanne Dubé recently announced her retirement from the BLLA Board of Directors for health reasons.
In honor of her extraordinary dedication to the Library for many years, both as volunteer and Board member, we have assembled some stories, comments and photos on this page. We hope everyone will enjoy looking at these.
If you have any photos or anecdotes you would like to share here, please email
them to web@brewsterladieslibrary.org
and check back here soon to see them included.
We would welcome messages from any of Jeanne's many friends, and the other
organizations to which Jeanne gives her time.
We have also created a blog: Click here to
post your comments and read what others are saying. (You will need a
"Google" account to post.)
Blog postings will
also be added to this page.
In Appreciation of Jeanne Dubé
2008 - Jeanne serves refreshments to children at the Kristi A.P. Hay event |
From Daryl Bladen For several years Jeanne has been the Pearl Mesta of the Library. She has taught us how to be gracious hosts, serve tasty refreshments and provide seasonally and programmatically appropriate decorations. Upon occasion, I have taken a few shortcuts and always hope she does not notice. We will try to keep to your high standards, Jeanne. Thank you!
From Nina Gregson There will be quite a hole left on the board with Jeanne leaving. Her enthusiasm was infectious. Her creativity was also amazing. I loved the Old Man and the Sea display she put together for our town read. Thanks for all you have done. |
From Kathleen Remillard It does not seem possible that I have known Jeanne for almost ten years. During her tenure on the Library Board she unselfishly gave her time and expertise to the staff and patrons. Her commitment to the library and its mission has helped make it a "special place." Thank you Jeanne for all you have done for the library community.

From Chris Kenney Jeanne has been a wonderful colleague on the Board. Unfailingly kind
and generous, she's been tireless in her support of the Library. As the
most hospitable person in Brewster, she's not only been an extraordinary
hostess but a warm and welcoming presence for everyone coming to the
Library. |
From Claire Gradone Jeanne Dubé is the Brewster Ladies' Library "hostess with mostest". As hospitality chair for the Board of Directors, she has orchestrated numerous library events including two "Brewster is Reading" projects as well monthly concerts and special events. Jeanne's enthusiasm is contagious as she plans every detail of an event right down to the centerpiece. The library is most fortunate to benefit from Jeanne's creative and organizational skills.
From Jeff Gardner As a fairly new member of the Board of the Library Association I was struck by the warmth and generosity of Jeanne's welcome. This is of course characteristic of her behavior. Groups' individual members each play particular roles and Jeanne's is at least partly that of the "heart" of the Board. We are blessed to count her as a friend and colleague.

Part of Jeanne's display for Brewster is Reading: |
From Liz Weiss Jeanne is just one of those people you know you can count on to do the best possible job on anything she chooses to undertake. And she really cares deeply about our Library in ways that make her presence always welcome. Thank you, Jeanne, for all that you do for the Library. From Anne O'Connell When I first joined the library board, I attended a couple of meetings where Jeanne was not present. I was immediately struck by how fondly everyone else felt about this woman who I had yet to meet. Upon meeting Jeanne, it became clear why she was held in such high regard by those who worked with her on the board. Her devotion to the library and all those who work for it is patently obvious and an inspiration to us all. |
From Janet Bantly Jeanne was one of the first people I met when we moved to Brewster 12 years ago. She was very active in the Library, and as I began being involved also, we became friends. She works so hard and is so appreciative when you do something to help her.
From Chris Lord Jeanne, you have worked tirelessly for the library, served on the board, and been a true friend to the staff. Thank you so much for sharing your many talents. You have truly left your mark on the library, and in our hearts. |
Jeanne with Brewster Board of Selectmen representative Dyanne Cooney From Judy Racely Jeanne, you have made being a board member very enjoyable during our tenure together at the BLL. You are the Pearl Mesta of the Board and the Town of Brewster. Remember the laugh we had when some younger members did not know of Pearl's many activities? Perhaps we can call you "Diamond Dubé"! |

From Eileen Bergquist During my first term on the Board, I noticed how much involvement Jeanne had with all the many activities and programs going on at the Library. Whenever there was a question, she could always be relied upon to recall past history or practices. At the same time, Jeanne was also fully engaged at looking at new ideas and differing
perspectives. Whenever there was a need for additional help, Jeanne was the first to raise her hand. Her enjoyment and love of all aspects of the Brewster Ladies Library was always visible in her behavior towards staff and colleagues alike. |
Jeanne at a volunteer appreciation event |
From Ray and Mary Gomez Over the many years we have known Jeanne we have marveled at her ability to organize and set in motion one event after an other with seemingly no effort at all. When I became a board member a few years ago I realized that she was totally involved in every aspect of making the library the best that it could be. She may be replaced on the board, but her shoes will never be filled. From Valerie & Ed Lewis Whatever she does and with whom she does it Jeanne always leaves you with the feeling that you have done something good. When we first moved to Far Fields Road over 12 years ago it was Jeanne and Paul who welcomed us with open arms and that friendship continues today. I know the library is a better place because of her involvement as is the Lower Cape Outreach Council and any other organization that Paul and Jeanne have involved themselves with over the years. Brewster is a better place becuse of Jeanne and we are better people because of their love and friendship. |
From Norma Modzelewski Jeanne, From Sue Carr How will they manage without Jeanne? Who will step into the breech? Whether it was leading the parade, writing a poem, or finding out where to plug in the Christmas lights...Jeanne was always there for the BLL. Hers will be a hard act to follow. From Paul & Judy Lindahl Looks like we might be the first to post about Jeanne
outside her library connections. I first met Jeanne as a new member of the
Orleans Yacht Club 9 years ago. She was gracious and kind and guided us
through the "volunteer club" commitment we had made. She made it
easy, fun and a great pleasure to get involved. The smiles of the Dube's
are quite contagious. Jeanne and Paul, you have been great mentors to us
and we wish you well. Thank you for all your smiles.
